The great GEO debate
Hey besties,
Not sure about you, but my brain hurts from the pace of AI innovation. Just when I get my head around vibe coding, now I'm supposed to be OpenClaw-ing? 🤯 Don't stress... I'll experiment with everything for you and let you know what's worth the work. For now: your Claude Projects, Gemini Gems, and Custom GPTs are just fine.
Now, let's group chat. 👇
🤖 GEO-IDK: Lots hitting my group chats this week in the world of GEO.
-
Axios reports LinkedIn is now a top cited source for AI, according to data from GEO tech company Profound.
-
Meanwhile, Jim Prosser claims GEO is Racket. His point is that good comms = good AI visibility, and selling GEO as a separate paid service outside of regular comms work is...well, read it.
-
Anecdotally, I'm hearing that despite the hype, a lot of folks are not finding earned media cited in branded searches.
My take: At a minimum, have a baseline understanding of your brand's presence. Continue strong comms work to distribute accurate information. Your website and press releases (aka AI notices) should clearly answer questions.
What are you doing with GEO? What's working and what's not? Do you have a big win to share? I'd love to hear it.
🛠️ PR Vibe Tools: My girl Sarah Evans has been on a building TEAR lately, so let's talk about all the cool things she's built for you:
-
An digital twin AI bot of her brain to ask questions
-
A reporter source finder that you can reverse engineer to see how your experts can show up
-
A GitHub project to help you build your Wikipedia site (which the bots love… but you need good earned media articles before you start)
-
A GitHub project to set up your morning news scan
-
A GenAI press release builder custom GPT
Sarah proving how fun (and quick!) vibe coding can be.
✍️ AI writing tropes: Take this, make it a keyboard shortcut (or skill, or anywhere you can easily re-access over and over), and use it often to remove AI tropes from your writing. (h/t Rubina Fillion)
📰 Media gems: If you work in media relations, bookmark these. My friend and pitching expert Michael Smart broke down 10 real-life media pitches that landed coverage, and Carly Martinelli shared 5 killer subject line formulas.
